Mr. Pieter Ariëns Kappers

Pieter Ariëns Kappers has been a lawyer since 1981 and is presently legal advisor/Senior Counsel. He regularly advises Dutch and foreign companies on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, re-organisations, shareholder issues, management and supervision, start-ups and other areas of corporate law, including commercial law and commercial contracts. He acts in mediation and arbitration.

Pieter also advises in the field of media law, particularly with regard to television and film, as well as art law. Pieter regularly speaks at national and international conferences and has several publications to his name.

From 1981 to 2014 Pieter was a lawyer and partner at Boekel de Nerée in Amsterdam. He led an international Corporate/M&A team and the German Desk. He was Vice Chair of the international law network TerraLex, to which Boekel belonged, for many years. For 25 years, Pieter was also General Secretary of the Federation for Appraisers, Brokers and Auctioneers in Movable Property (Federatie TMV).

Pieter has served as Chairman of the Stichting Code Cultuursponsoring and has belonged to the boards of the Stichting Nederlands Filmmuseum (now EYE), and the Nederlandse Vereniging voor Auteursrecht. He has also been a member of the Comité Exécutif of the international copyright organisation ALAI, the Chairman of the International Art & Film Foundation and served as the Netherlands vice consul in Bolivia.

Pieter was Chair of the Art, Cultural Institutions and Heritage Law Committee of the International Bar Association IBA and is presently a board member of Genootschap Nederland Duitsland and of the Foundation of Friends of the painter Martin Monnickendam.
