Prof. Dr. Harrie van Mens
Prof. Dr. K.L.H.(Harrie) van Mens studied notarial law and tax law at the University of Amsterdam. He obtained his doctorate cum laude at the same university on the subject of “Private Law and Tax Law Aspects of the Gift Concept”. Prof. Van Mens started his career in a commercial position at Uitgeverij Kluwer, after which he worked as an attorney and tax adviser for several decades and was active in matters such as corporate structuring, advice in the field of estate planning, DGA issues and advice on Anglo American trusts.
From 1987 to 2011, Prof. Van Mens combined his advisory practice with a permanent appointment as professor of tax law at the University of Utrecht. He was also a deputy judge at the Court of Appeal of ‘s-Hertogenbosch for 20 years. Prof. Van Mens is currently active as a boardroom counsellor and supervisory director of seven companies. Harrie gives legal opinions and frequently acts as a ‘troubleshooter’ in resolving complex disputes or unravelling legal Gordian knots. He has published extensively as author and co-author, including books as well as journals. He is chairman of the board of several NGOs, most prominently, Chairman of the Board of the Doctors for Children Foundation (www.artsenvoorkinderen.nl) and of the Fitkids Foundation (www.fitkids.nl).
